Artificial Grass Installation Process Is Changing Rapidly.

Steps to Artificial Grass Installation : -

Preparation of the area to be covered with your new artificial/synthetic grass is key to the successful installation. Ideally the area should be free of any organic matter prior to installation.
Remove any existing organic matter to a depth of 80mm ready to fill with 70mm blue metal dust (known as cracker dust, available from your local landscape supplier). For car parking areas, we recommend you dig out at least 110mm and fill up with at least 100mm blue metal dust (cracker dust). Prior to backfilling with cracker dust, we recommend you compact the area.

Tips
• Applying weed killer to the site and around the edges may reduce the likelihood of organic matter reappearing.
• Cap any sprinklers and test to ensure there are no water leaks.

Fill up the area with blue metal dust, apply some water then compact the area.

Tips

  • Compact the base a minimum of two times.
  • Make sure the site is perfectly level before laying the artificial/synthetic turf, you may want to use levels and screeding tools to achieve this.

Leave the base

Lay the turf down and cut to an approximate size leaving about 50mm around the edge. If you are using joining tape put the joining tape under the turf to be joined., make the joint, put pins across the joints and edges.

Tips

  • It would be ideal if you could unroll the turf and leave on site overnight before installing
  • Make the joint and trim the edges ideally in the coolest part of the day
  • It is very important to ensure the grain is running in the same direction when laying out the full pieces of artificial turf.
  • Put pins at 100mm (minimum) intervals along the joints and at 500mm (minimum) intervals along the edges.

Do not trap the turf blades under the pins

Spread kiln dried silica sand (this ensures the sand is free of any organic matter) on top the synthetic turf, brush against the pile with a hard brush or broom. Spread water on the turf to clean up the area.

Tips

  • Minimum 10kg per sqm silica sand required.

You may want to use a blower blow the areas where extra silica sand has built up
