Maintenance steps
- Clear
Your deck shouldn’t have any items on it when you begin maintenance work as this will allow you to access the entirety of the deck. Therefore any pieces of furniture, cooking equipment and decor should be removed. Be mindful not to scratch the decking when you move heavier items. If any items are too heavy or not safe to move, you should cover them with plastic sheeting for protection.
- Sweep
Use your broom to remove all traces of dirt and debris from the deck while being careful not to scratch the surface. Debris is important to remove as it can cause scratches itself if left unchecked. It can also be particularly problematic if it becomes acidic after decomposition.
- Scrub

Having the pressure on too high or washing too close can cause irreversible etching of your deck. As such, hand washing is the safer and more reliable choice that will give you better results.
- Rinse
Regardless of the cleaning product used, the soap and suds shouldn’t be left to dry. If this happens the decking can potentially discolour and will start to look older and worn. To avoid this, make sure you use a hose to wash away all the residual suds.
- Dry
Leave the deck to dry before placing any items back onto the deck. Doing otherwise will likely cause the surface to scratch.
